In its fall 2008 issue, Fabulous Floors magazine features the Wear-Dated Field Guide to Color in depth in an article titled “Designer’s Walk” written by Sonna Calandrino, editor-in-chief. The article explores color and color palettes and discusses how homeowners can effectively use color in their own homes. The Field Guide is based on the nature paintings of John J. Audubon and depicts the naturally brilliant color combinations he explores. Each print includes tear-off color chips that homeowners can use to design their own color palettes. “Designer’s Walk” describes the process and features several of the Field Guide to Color combinations to help consumers confidently pull together color palettes for their own homes.
Wear-Dated offers the following tips on incorporating color into your home – and your carpet:
- As you think about color options, consider what other fabrics, patterns, textures or elements you want to unify in your room to create the environment you want.
- A good rule of thumb is to pair complementary colors (hues on opposite sides of the color wheel). This usually results in a room that generates high praise!
- Consider carpet a “fifth wall” since it absolutely plays a role in the overall effect you are trying to create in your home.
- For high-traffic common areas, you might consider colors and patterns that don’t draw attention to the normal comings and goings of your household.
